Steve Trachsel will look to win his fourth consecutive start when the New York Mets open a four-game series against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.

The 32-year-old right-hander has been the Mets’ best starter in recent weeks. He is 4-1 with a 1.50 ERA over his last five starts, not allowing more than three earned runs in any of those outings.

On Saturday, he held the Cincinnati Reds to no runs and four hits over six innings in a 6-2 win.

The Mets will look for another strong start from Trachsel as they try to snap a three-game losing streak.

New York comes in after being swept for the fourth time this season, losing 6-3 to the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.

The Phillies, who trail the Arizona Diamondbacks by one game in the National League wild-card race, have won two straight following a season-high four-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, Kevin Millwood pitched a three-hitter and Bobby Abreu homered for the second straight game, leading the Phillies to a 2-0 win over the Montreal Expos.

First baseman Jim Thome got the day off to rest his ailing back, but he said his condition is not serious.

“It’s a little sore today,” Thome said. “I’ll be ready to go (Thursday).”
