The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of their worst losing streak of the season. They’re hoping their ace can end it.

Kevin Brown will try to halt a five-game skid for Los Angeles as it concludes a three-game series with the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.

Brown will also be trying to break a losing streak of his own. The 38-year-old right-hander has lost consecutive starts for the first time this season.

On Friday, Brown pitched well, but the offensively challenged Dodgers failed to provide him with any support. He gave up two runs and eight hits through seven innings of a 3-0 loss to the Anaheim Angels.

Providing the starters with run support is not a new problem for the Dodgers. Los Angeles, last in the National League with 278 runs, has scored three runs or fewer in eight of its last nine games. All eight have been losses.

While the Dodgers continue to slide, the Padres have won a season-high four straight games and are in position to complete their first series sweep of the season.

On Wednesday, Mark Loretta hit an RBI single off Dodgers closer Eric Gagne in the top of the 10th to lead the Padres to a 4-3 victory.

The Padres’ four-game winning streak is their first since last July 16-19.
