Paul Wilson’s suspension is over. He hopes the problems he experienced in his last start are as well.

Coming off one of his worst outings of the season, Wilson will try to help the Cincinnati Reds win for the third time in four games when they meet the Pittsburgh Pirates in the middle game of their series at PNC Park.

Wilson has not pitched since last Wednesday, because he just completed a five-suspension for fighting with Kyle Farnsworth of the Chicago Cubs on June 19.

As he steps back onto the mound, however, he’ll try to forget about his performance against the St. Louis Cardinals last week. Wilson allowed seven runs and nine hits over six innings in the 9-6 defeat, his first loss since May 24.

“I got the ball up the first two innings and I can’t do that,” Wilson said. “I don’t have the kind of stuff to live up there.”

Wilson will now try to help the Reds clinch their first series win since they swept a three-game set from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from June 10-12.

In Tuesday’s series opener, Jose Guillen hit a tiebreaking, two-run home run in the eighth to give the Reds a 5-3 victory.

Over the first 10 games of Cincinnati’s 12-game road trip, Guillen is batting .417 (15-for-36) with three home runs. While Guillen may not play every day, manager Bob Boone said he is “our fourth outfielder—but our best hitter.”

Brian Giles hit a two-run home run for the Pirates in the first inning Tuesday, his first homer in 67 at-bats.

The Pirates, who swept a three-game series from the Reds to open the season, have lost two of their last three.
