Jake Peavy has been one of the lone bright spots in a dismal season for the NL-worst San Diego Padres.

Peavy will put his three-start winning streak on the line as the Padres resume their three-game interleague series with the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.

The right-hander beat the Mariners 3-1 on Sunday, pitching 6 2-3 scoreless innings to help San Diego win the series.

Seattle has won eight of its last 12 games. The Mariners, who embark on a six-game road trip after Sunday’s series finale, have opened up a seven-game lead over second-place Oakland in the American League West.

Joel Pineiro pitched into the eighth inning to win his third straight start and Carlos Guillen homered as Seattle beat San Diego 8-2 on Friday.

“I had my best stuff, except the curveball wasn’t there,” Pineiro said. “But the fastball was there, so I went with it all day.”

Pineiro has pitched into the eighth inning in his last four starts and six of his last seven.

“He pitched great. We just didn’t have much going there,” San Diego manager Bruce Bochy said.
