Mora and the Orioles will try to secure a series win over the Toronto Blue Jays when the teams wrap up their four-game set at SkyDome.
Mora homered, doubled and singled in his return to the Baltimore lineup and Sidney Ponson pitched another complete game as the Orioles beat the Blue Jays 9-2 on Wednesday.
Mora had not played since being hit on the right hand by a pitch from Atlanta’s Greg Maddux on Friday. After missing four games, Mora came back to go 3-for-5, raising his AL-leading average to .366.
“Every single guy wants be an All-Star. It’s something you look forward to because that’s why you play, to be in there,” Mora said.
Before the game, Orioles players voted on reserves for the All-Star game.
“I think I deserve it. I’ve been working myself hard throughout the first half. I hope I’ll be there,” Mora said.
The Orioles have taken two straight from the Blue Jays after losing their previous eight against them.
The Blue Jays are expected to activate third baseman Eric Hinske from the disabled list on Thursday.
Last year’s AL Rookie of the Year has been on the 15-day DL since May 24 because of a broken bone in his right hand.
Hinske singled, doubled and homered in three at-bats in a rehab game at Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. He went 0-for-3 on Tuesday.
He hit .232 with two home runs and 21 RBIs in 44 games with Toronto.
Carlos Delgado and Vernon Wells, who should be representing the Blue Jays at next month’s All-Star game, have done the bulk of the offensive damage in Hinske’s absence, combining for 153 RBIs and 42 home runs.
