Unbeaten in his last five starts, Joe Mays looks to continue his resurgence as the Minnesota Twins resume a three-game interleague series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Metrodome.

Mays was 3-3 with a 5.83 ERA before ripping off four straight wins from May 17 to June 3. The right-hander took the hill in San Diego on Sunday, yielding two runs and eight hits over six solid frames. However, the Twins lost 9-4, leaving Mays without a win for the first time since a 3-2 setback to Kansas City on May 12.

“I thought I threw the ball well,” Mays said. “It looked like they were sitting on the changeup, so we kind of put it in the back pocket and started spinning the ball more. All in all I felt good, but I made some mistakes. That’s been my way this season.”

The Twins took the series opener 3-1 as Johan Santana tossed seven strong innings and Torii Hunter came through with a clutch two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning.

Minnesota has won three straight at home after dropping five in a row at the Metrodome.

Junior Spivey’s sacrifice fly provided the lone run for the Diamondbacks, who had won three of four.

Arizona is 1-2 on its eight-game road trip.

STANDINGS (through June 12): Diamondbacks - 4th place, 10 GB, NL West. Twins - 1st place, AL Central.

DIAMONDBACKS PROBABLE STARTER: Miguel Batista (3-3, 2.87 ERA). Batista has not pitched since tossing 2 2-3 innings of scoreless relief in the Diamondbacks’ 6-3 loss to Cleveland on June 6. The right-hander had been brilliant in his previous start, surrendering just one run and five hits over eight innings in Arizona’s 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on June 3. Batista did not receive a decision in that contest, leaving him winless in three starts since winning back-to-back outings from May 5-11. He is facing Minnesota for the first time.
