The New York Mets try for their season-high fourth straight win as they continue a three-game interleague series with the defending World Series champion Anaheim Angels at Edison Field.

New York made it three wins in a row for the fourth time this season, taking the series opener 7-3 on Friday.

Jeromy Burnitz homered and drove in three runs and Timo Perez hit his first home run of the season as the Mets improved to 2-0 since the firing of general manager Steve Philips on Thursday.

Rookie Jason Roach will make his major league debut when he takes the mound for New York on Saturday. Drafted in the 20th round of the 1997 draft, the 27-year-old right-hander was 4-2 with a 4.25 ERA at Triple-A Norfolk.

“This is great,” said Roach. “This is a good opportunity for me to prove I can pitch and see what I can do.”

Anaheim’s Darin Erstad had singles in his first two at-bats Friday, snapping an 0-for-12 skid since coming off the disabled list on Jun. 9. Erstad also made a diving catch in center field, but the Angels fell to 2-2 on their six-game homestand.

Erstad’s two hits gave him 152 in interleague play, most in the majors.
