The Los Angeles Dodgers may not be scoring runs, but they keep winning games.
The Dodgers look to extend their winning streak to four games when they open a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians at Jacobs Field.
The Dodgers are also last in the NL with a .244 batting average and last in the majors with 39 home runs.
However, catcher Paul Lo Duca has been doing his best to help the club. Lo Duca drove in the go-ahead run with a fifth-inning single as Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 3-2 win Thursday.
“Their team batting average didn’t go up, I don’t think,” Tigers manager Alan Trammell said afterward. “But they got three wins, and that’s all that matters.”
Lo Duca extended his hitting streak to 20 games, raising his batting average from .275 to .329 during that span. Lo Duca’s hitting streak is the longest by a Dodger since Brett Butler hit in 23 straight in 1991.
The Indians are not a hitting juggernaut either. Cleveland has a .242 team batting average and has scored 259 runs.
Gerut has hit safely in 13 straight games, batting .383 (18-for-47) with four homers and 11 RBIs during the streak.
