The 29-year-old left-hander looks to continue his resurgence when the Brewers conclude their three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Franklin, who Milwaukee acquired last Aug. 31 in a four-player deal that sent Mark Loretta to Houston, opened the season 1-4 with an unsightly 7.11 ERA. He then changed his mechanics during several sessions with Maddux.
“We worked on my hands, keep them back and letting my front side get out there,” Franklin said. “It’s just like hitting, you keep your hands back and you’ve got all your power back there. It helps your command at the same time.”
“Something little, and it paid off.”
Franklin is 2-0 over three starts since the changes, allowing just four combined runs over 22 innings, while striking out 19 and walking just five.
He followed up his May 21st two-hitter against San Diego by allowing just two runs and five hits over seven innings of the Brewers’ 4-2 win over the Padres on Tuesday. Franklin, who didn’t figure into the decision, struck out five without issuing a walk.
McGriff, who is 13 homers shy of 500 for his career, is batting .302 (39-for-129) over his last 35 games with 25 RBIs.
