Player Notes
Marlins placed OF Christian Yelich on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with a lower back strain.

Advice: Yelich has been battling back issues for over a week and the Marlins finally decided it was best to make a DL move with him. It's not clear at this point how long he might be on the shelf. Ichiro Suzuki figures to see the bulk of the starts in left field while Yelich is out.

Christian Yelich (back) said Tuesday that he expected to miss the next several games.

Advice: It's possible he could even require a trip to the disabled list. Yelich missed two games last week and another contest Tuesday because of lower back tightness and the Marlins might just decide to shut him down for at least a couple weeks. If Yelich does head to the DL, Ichiro Suzuki would be in line for a playing time boost.

Christian Yelich was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with lower back tightness.

Advice: It's the same issue that kept him out of a couple games last week. The struggling Yelich had been dropped down to fifth in the batting order before being scratched. Ichiro Suzuki has taken his spot in left field.

Christian Yelich has been dropped to fifth in the Marlins' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Yelich has batted exclusively out of the No. 2 spot so far, but he's struggled to the tune of a .200/.265/.222 batting line thus far. Martin Prado will hit second Tuesday. We suspect it won't be long before Yelich turns things around.

Christian Yelich went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Mets.

Advice: Yelich, who signed a seven-year, $49.57 million contract extension in March, is off to a miserable start. Sunday's performance dropped his average to .200 and he has only one extra-base hit and one stolen base. He has come to the plate only 49 times, which is a small sample size, but it's not the start to the season the Marlins envisioned when they agreed to the pact with Yelich last month. Perhaps some of Yelich's struggles can be explained by a recent bout with back tightness.

Christian Yelich (back) has returned to the Marlins' lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Yelich missed two straight games with tightness in his back, but it was never a serious concern. The left fielder will hit second in his return Thursday night.

Christian Yelich (back) remained out of the Marlins' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: He was expected to miss a second straight game due to a tight back given that the club had a day game after a night game, but MLB.com's Joe Frisaro thinks Yelich could be held out until Saturday or possibly Friday. Ichiro Suzuki is in left field in Yelich's place again Wednesday. J.T. Realmuto is getting a start Wednesday over Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
