Player Notes
The Dodgers aren't ready to reveal when Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder, elbow) could be ready to make his Cactus League debut.

Advice: Ryu hasn't had any issues in his recent bullpen sessions, but the Dodgers are being cautious with him after injuries have limited him to just one start over the past two seasons. His velocity still isn't back to normal, so it's possible they want to see him build some more arm strength first. "It is kind of contingent on his progress," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder, elbow) threw live batting practice Sunday.

Advice: Ryu said after the session that he feels healthy enough to be part of the Dodgers' Opening Day rotation. That's encouraging, but we'll have to wait and see how he looks in Cactus League action. Ryu was throwing only 84-86 mph in a bullpen session last week.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Hyun-Jin Ryu (elbow, shoulder) was sitting 84-86 mph with his fastball in his latest bullpen session.

Advice: Ryu is not the hardest thrower, but that's still well below the norm for him. Roberts told reporters that the club will begin watching Ryu closely to determine whether he's healthy and maybe over-protecting his surgically-repaired left arm. The South Korean starter remains an iffy gamble for the 2017 campaign.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said that Hyun-Jin Ryu has "done everything he can this offseason to come into camp and reclaim his spot."

Advice: Ryu has been as plagued by the injury bug as any player out there, having made just one start over the past two seasons due to a menagerie of ailments -- including shoulder, groin and elbow concerns. He said near the end of January that he felt no pain in throwing four offseason bullpens. While that is certainly a positive sign for the oft-injured 29-year-old southpaw, he will need to get through spring training without setback if he is to rejoin the rotation.
