Player Notes
Yoenis Cespedes is out of the Mets' lineup Thursday because he had a flareup with his quad.

Advice: Cespedes missed a chunk of time earlier this month with a quad strain, and now it's rearing its ugly head again. Consider him day-to-day for now. Alejandro De Aza is in left field and Juan Lagares is in center field on Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

Yoenis Cespedes is out of the Mets' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

Advice: Alejandro De Aza is in left field and Juan Lagares is in center in the series opener versus Colorado. This is just a day of maintenance for Cespedes, who slugged a two-run homer on Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-4 with a two-run bomb on Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Advice: The home run put the Mets ahead in the seventh inning but the Cardinals came back to win in the ninth. Cespedes has been banged up lately and missed some games, but he looked good tonight. He is slashing a whopping .297/.367/.566 but his counting stats have not been quite as pretty. He has 22 home runs, 49 runs and 58 RBI. His weak-hitting teammates haven't given him the support he needs to score and drive in runs.

Yoenis Cespedes is not in the Mets' starting lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.

Advice: Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera will also take a seat against Cubs righty Kyle Hendricks. Michael Conforto is starting in left field and Juan Lagares is in center field in the afternoon game at Wrigley Field.

Mets manager Terry Collins plans to talk to Yoenis Cespedes about whether it's a good idea for him to play center field on Tuesday.

Advice: Collins said that Cespedes moved cautiously while playing left field on Monday, so he might not want to push it with his recent quad injury. The original plan called for Michael Conforto to make the start in left field on Tuesday and slide Cespedes back over to center field, but that could change now. Stay tuned.

Mets manager Terry Collins said that Yoenis Cespedes will play center field on Tuesday.

Advice: Cespedes prefers to play left field, partially to protect his recent quad injury, but he'll slide over to center field on Tuesday in order to go Michael Conforto's bat in the lineup. However, the Mets don't plan to make this a regular thing. Mets manager Terry Collins indicated Monday that Conforto could see time in center field now that he's back from the minors. That's not an ideal alignment.

Yoenis Cespedes said he'd prefer to stay in left field for the remainder of the season.

Advice: He's spent most of the year in center but returned to the lineup as a left fielder on Sunday. Cespedes won the AL Gold Glove as a left fielder last season so he has plenty of experience at the position. Left field is certainly the less taxing of the two spots and Cespedes said his quad is only about 80-90 percent right now. If Cespedes becomes a permanent fixture in left field, it will be good news for Juan Lagares and Alejandro De Aza but bad news for Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson, who have been used exclusively on the corners this year.
