Player Notes
Diamondbacks placed RHP Shelby Miller on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 25, with a right index finger injury.

Advice: Miller hurt the finger last month when he dragged it across the mound on his follow-through after delivering a pitch, and the D'Backs are saying the finger is still an issue. It's unclear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but the club will likely take its time with Miller given how much he's struggled Archie Bradley is expected to replace him in the rotation.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks are expected to place Shelby Miller (finger) on the disabled list Friday.

Advice: Manager Chip Hale revealed Thursday that Miller is still dealing with discomfort in a finger on his right hand as a result of an injury last month. It's fair to question whether Miller is truly hurt or whether the D'Backs just want to give the struggling righty some time off, but either way he's not going to start for them for a while. Archie Bradley will replace Miller in the rotation.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Shelby Miller is dealing with discomfort in a finger on his right hand.

Advice: Miller jammed the finger against the pitching mound in San Diego during a start at Petco Park back in April. He's still scheduled to take his next turn Sunday at home against the Padres, but a disabled list stint may be coming (whether he actually needs it or not) if things go poorly in that outing. Miller has a hideous 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, and 30/29 K/BB ratio through his first 45 2/3 innings with Arizona.

On the possibility of optioning the struggling Shelby Miller to Triple-A Reno, Diamondbacks GM Dave Stewart said Wednesday, "We want to get him on track the best way we can."

Advice: "We will figure it out and do what's needed," Stewart followed. This is all incredibly vague, but there is no denying Miller's issues. The 25-year-old right-hander was rocked for six runs over five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates and holds a 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, and 30/29 K/BB ratio across 45 2/3 innings in 2016. His next scheduled start would come against the Padres this weekend, assuming he is still on the major league roster at that time.

Shelby Miller's season to forget got worse Tuesday, as he was popped for six runs over five frames in a loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Miller was down 3-0 before he could catch his breath, as he permitted a walk to John Jaso, a single to Andrew McCutchen and a three-run homer to Gregory Polanco before recording his first out. It didn't get much better after that, as he wound up allowing eight hits while walking four and striking out just three. Miller is now 1-6 with a 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 30/29 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings and has registered just one quality start in 10 tries. He'll get the Padres this weekend, so perhaps it will be the start of his turnaround.
