1B Ike Davis has been told that the Mets will not send him to the minors, even if he continues to struggle at the plate. Davis is batting .164 with a .218 on-base percentage, leading manager Terry Collins to say last weekend that the team might consider demoting him. Instead, the Mets will keep Davis around, sitting him periodically against tough left-handed starters. Davis had a two-run pinch single Thursday.

Davis is not in the starting lineup Thursday, the Mets' official Twitter feed reports.Recommendation: He'll take a seat with a left-handed starter on the mound, which has been the case each of the last three times that the Mets have faced one. Davis went 1-for-10 with five strikeouts over his the last three games, but should be available off the bench to pinch-hit Thursday if needed.
