Player Notes
Lance Lynn (elbow) acknowledged Tuesday that the odds of him pitching for the Cardinals in 2016 are "very slim."

Advice: "Realistically, the chances of getting back to the major leagues and being productive are very slim," said the right-hander. Lynn underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery only nine months ago and that procedure typically requires 12-15 months of rest and rehab. Yet he made two appearances at High-A Palm Beach last week and is scheduled to start for Double-A Springfield this Wednesday.

Lance Lynn (elbow) is set to make a rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Springfield.

Advice: He'll likely throw around 50 pitches, or three innings. Lynn worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his minor league rehab debut last Monday with High-A Palm Beach and came out of the appearance with no abnormal discomfort in his surgically-repaired right elbow. He's made a miraculous recovery so far from Tommy John surgery and could be an option for the Cardinals by mid-to-late September.

Lance Lynn (elbow) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings Monday in his first minor league rehab start with High-A Palm Beach.

Advice: Lynn was pretty sharp in his first game since the NLDS last October, giving up one hit and no walks while striking out one. He threw 19 out of 27 pitches for strikes. Lynn is only nine months removed from Tommy John surgery, but the Cardinals haven't ruled him out as a possibility to contribute in September.

Lance Lynn (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with High-A Palm Beach.

Advice: Lynn had Tommy John surgery last November, so the original assumption was that he would miss the entire 2016 season, but he has convinced the Cardinals that he's ready to give it a go in game action. The club might decide to play it safe at some point, but there's a chance that he could have a role in September.
