Player Notes
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Orioles have "called on" free agent Chris Carter.

Advice: Milwaukee made a surprise decision to non-tender Carter last week and now he stands to find a decent market for himself after slugging 41 homers for the Brewers in 2016. The bat would obviously play well at Camden Yards, and all across the American League East.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Orioles may look at free agent slugger Chris Carter.

Advice: The recently non-tendered Carter would be a low-cost alternative to bringing back Mark Trumbo on a lucrative multi-year deal. Trumbo is reportedly aiming for a four-year deal in the range of $75-80 million. That might not be the best use of resources for Baltimore. Heyman names Jarrod Dyson, Carlos Gomez, and Curtis Granderson among the team's current outfield targets. They are monitoring Matt Wieters and Nick Hundley for catcher.

Brewers non-tendered 1B Chris Carter.

Advice: After designating him for assignment earlier in the week the Brewers attempted to trade the veteran slugger but to no avail. He'll join a free agent market that is currently flush with power-hitting options from the right side of the plate, so he may have to wait for a few of the bigger dominoes to fall before landing a deal.

Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that the Brewers are having active trade talks involving Chris Carter.

Advice: It was reported Monday that the Brewers were planning to non-tender Carter, but he was designated for assignment on Tuesday in order to make way for his replacement, Eric Thames, on the 40-man roster. Teams probably wouldn't have to give up much in the way of value to acquire the veteran slugger at this point, but they could just take their chances and see if he ends up hitting the open market. We should know more in the next couple of days.

Brewers designated 1B Chris Carter for assignment.

Advice: The move clears the way for the newly-signed Eric Thames on the 40-man roster. We learned on Monday that the Brewers were planning to non-tender Carter. They now have a couple of days to find a trade partner before Friday's non-tender deadline. Carter tied Colorado's Nolan Arenado for the NL lead with 41 homers this past season while batting .222/.321/.499 over 160 games. His price tag should be reasonable through arbitration (MLB Trade Rumors projects him at $8.1 million in 2017), so he could draw some interest. Otherwise, he'll try his luck in free agency for the second straight year.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Brewers will non-tender Chris Carter.

Advice: Brewers general manager David Stearns said last month that he planned for Carter to return as the club's first baseman in 2017, but he apparently had a change of heart. It's the second offseason in a row that Carter has been non-tendered, and this time it comes after a 41-homer season. He was projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $8.1 million in arbitration. Carter should have no trouble landing a starting job somewhere.
