Player Notes
Craig Kimbrel struck out two in 1 1/3 scoreless innings to collect his 22nd save of the season on Saturday versus the Tigers.

Advice: He was called upon to get the last out of the eighth inning with two runners aboard and retired Miguel Cabrera on a line-out to left. He gave up a double to Justin Upton with two outs in the ninth but whiffed Casey McGehee to close out the game. Kimbrel seems to have rounded into form after battling a knee injury. He has a 3.12 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings.

Craig Kimbrel will not be available for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: This is just a typical day off for Kimbrel after pitching in back-to-back games. Even beyond the recent workload, the flamethrowing reliever is still regaining his strength after undergoing left knee surgery earlier this summer. Should the Red Sox need a closer on Wednesday, they will likely turn to Brad Ziegler.

Craig Kimbrel notched his 21st save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning in Tuesday's win over the Orioles.

Advice: The Red Sox' bullpen generally had a tough time in this one after Eduardo Rodriguez left with a hamstring injury, but Kimbrel had no problems protecting a two-run lead setting down the O's quickly on nine pitches. The closer has dealt with some knee soreness recently but has three straight scoreless appearances.

Craig Kimbrel earned his 20th save of the season on Monday afternoon against the Indians.

Advice: Kimbrel yielded a leadoff double to Francisco Lindor and then walked Mike Napoli, but he struck out Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis before inducing a game-ending infield pop-out from Abraham Almonte. Kimbrel has a 3.32 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 60/21 K/BB ratio in 38 innings this season at the back end of the Boston bullpen.

Mon, Aug 15 Rotoworld
Craig Kimbrel worked a scoreless ninth inning against the Diamondbacks on Saturday to earn his 19th save of the season.

Advice: Kimbrel walked four batters before being removed from his last save chance, so it was a good return to form for the 28-year-old. He struck out one without allowing a baserunner in the inning of work. It has easily been the worst year of Kimbrel's career -- and even then, a 3.41 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 58/20 K/BB ratio in 37 innings is hardly terrible -- but he's converted 19 of 22 save chances and remains entrenched as the Sox closer.
