Player Notes
Buster Posey swatted his 14th home run of the season on Friday, but that was the Giants' only offense in a losing effort against the Nationals.

Advice: The solo shot off Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez briefly gave the Giants a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning, until the Nats struck back for a pair in the bottom half of the inning. Posey is having another terrific season at the dish, slashing .304/.375/.504 with 14 homers and 57 RBI.

Buster Posey (head) went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI in Thursday's loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Posey homered off of flamethrower Carter Capps in the eighth inning to draw the Giants to within 5-4, but they would be unable to push across another run and ultimately fell by that final score. It's good to see him back in the lineup, as he took a foul ball off his mask in Wednesday's contest with the Marlins. After passing a concussion test, he hit in his normal cleanup spot and looked like his normal self on Thursday. Posey is hitting .304/.377/.496 with 13 homers and 56 RBI this season.

Buster Posey (head) is starting at first base for the Giants on Thursday afternoon against the Marlins.

Advice: Posey left Wednesday's game after taking a foul ball off the center of his mask, but he passed a concussion test. He is batting cleanup Thursday against Jose Fernandez, who's making his first start in over 13 months.

Buster Posey passed a concussion test after Wednesday's game.

Advice: Posey left the game after taking a foul ball off his mask. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said the catcher felt "off" and didn't want to risk further injury. He'll be re-evaluated again Thursday, but as of now it appears he dodged a huge bullet.

Buster Posey left Wednesday's game after taking a foul ball off his mask.

Advice: Posey stayed in after the incident, but he was removed in the fifth inning. He's being re-evaluated, likely for concussion symptoms, and the club may have a better prognosis after the game. Andrew Susac would be in line for the bulk of the playing time if Posey is forced to miss time.

Buster Posey left Wednesday's game against the Marlins with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: There was nothing apparent, but Andrew Susac replaced Posey behind the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. A few inning earlier Posey took a foul ball off his mask. The Giants should provide an update shortly.

Buster Posey finished 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored against the Marlins on Tuesday.

Advice: Posey hit a solo home run in the third inning before doubling and scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth. The catcher is 11-for-24 (.458) with four doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI and eight runs scored during a six-game hitting streak. The hot stretch has his overall line up to .303/.378/.487.

Buster Posey went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's win over the Rockies.

Advice: Posey contributed a two-run double in the third inning, the third time in his last four games that he's driven in multiple runs. In that span, he's 7-for-16 with three doubles, nine RBI and six runs scored. Overall, Posey is hitting .297/.375/.471 with 11 homers, 39 runs scored and 50 RBI.

Buster Posey went 3-for-5 and drove home three runs as the Giants outlasted the Padres in a 13-8 slugfest on Thursday.

Advice: Two of Posey's three knocks were doubles and he also scored three runs in the contest. He has once again been one of the truly elite offensive performers behind the plate this season, slashing .293/.369/.469 with 11 long balls and 48 RBI.

Buster Posey blasted a grand slam in Wednesday's 6-0 triumph across from San Diego.

Advice: He finished 1-for-4. Posey's grand slam seemed almost preordained after Ian Kennedy slogged through a third inning elongated by a Will Middlebrooks error. Considering Posey's history against Kennedy, it came as no surprise that he capitalized on the moment. Posey is 16-for-40 (.400) lifetime against the right-hander.
