Player Notes
Mets manager Terry Collins said that Neil Walker will "probably" undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back.

Advice: The Mets' dark, injury-riddled season continues. Walker was diagnosed with a herniated disc in his back earlier on Wednesday and while the second baseman wanted to play through the injury, it was causing him numbness in his foot and leg. After seeking a second opinion, it was determined that surgery would be the best course of action. Walker will miss the remainder of the 2016 season.

Mets manager Terry Collins said that the herniated disc in Neil Walker's back could require surgery.

Advice: Walker would like to keep playing through the herniated disc, but he is experiencing numbness in his foot and leg due to the injury. He is seeking a second opinion, which should shed more light on whether or not he will need to undergo a season-ending surgical procedure. Wilmer Flores figures to continue to fill in for him at second base until all this is sorted out.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson said Wednesday that Neil Walker has been diagnosed with a herniated disc.

Advice: The injury is causing weakness in Walker's lower body. The second baseman has pledged to continue playing through the injury and doctors have OK'd that plan, but he's likely to need regular days off down the stretch. Wilmer Flores started at second base for the Mets on Tuesday night against the Marlins.

Mets manager Terry Collins acknowledged Tuesday that "there's a lot of concern" about Neil Walker's injured back.

Advice: Walker is missing his third straight start Tuesday against the Marlins with a back injury that has bothered him since August. Collins suggested that the second baseman might not be able to operate as an everyday player down the stretch. Wilmer Flores is at second base and batting sixth Tuesday versus Miami righty Tom Koehler.

Neil Walker (back) is out of the Mets' lineup again Monday against the Marlins.

Advice: Walker has now missed consecutive games due to a back injury from earlier this month. He's been red-hot for a while now, so his absence really hurts. Consider him day-to-day for now.Daily Slant: With Walker and Cabrera out of the Mets lineup, it improves the spot for Jose Fernandez even further. Fernandez still owns an eye-popping 15.0 SwStr% and 35.4 K% (both top the list on tonight’s slate) so his ceiling is absolutely immense on any given day, especially considering the Mets own the league’s 7th highest K% against RHP (22.0%). If you are spending upwards of $10K on a SP, go ahead and pay all the way up for the Marlins ace.

Neil Walker (back) is not in the Mets' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Walker has had a minor setback with the back injury that kept him out for four games earlier this month. The hope is that he'll be fine after one day of rest. Kelly Johnson is filling in at second base.
