Yabuta chose to become a free agent rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Omaha, the Kansas City Star reports.
Recommendation: Yabuta saw limited action with the Royals in 2009, appearing in 12 games posting a 2-1 record with a 13.50 ERA. Yabuta does not provide more than organizational depth at this point in his career.

RHP Yasuhiko Yabuta was outrighted to Class AAA Omaha, and he declined the assignment and chose to become a free agent. The Royals did not pick up a 2010 option of $4 million for Yabuta, who was 2-1 with a 13.50 ERA in 12 relief appearances in 2009.
