OF Wladimir Balentien hasn't shown manager Don Wakamatsu enough while starting against left-handed pitching, so he was on the bench Thursday against Yankees LHP C.C. Sabathia. "We've been waiting for consistency from Balentien," Wakamatsu said. "But he'll have one good game, one bad game. We need to see production from him against left-handed pitchers, and I haven't seen it." It probably didn't help that Balentien got picked off first base Wednesday. |

Balentien's playing time will be much diminished going forward, as the Mariners' staff is underwhelmed with his play, the Tacoma News Tribune reports. Recommendation: Ken Griffey started in left field Tuesday, and the newly acquired Ryan Langerhans will see time in left field, as well. Balentien's hitting just .230 this season with 13 XBH in 38 games. As disappointing as Balentien has been, it strikes us as a little early to give up on a player who's had a grand total of 381 career at-bats. |
