Player Notes
Chase Headley's 12th inning home run helped lead the Padres to a 2-1 win over the Brewers on Tuesday.

Advice: The third baseman finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk. Facing Alfredo Figaro in extra innings, Headley deposited a pitch well over the right-center field wall to give his club the lead and, eventually, the win. Despite the heroics, it was just Headley's second home run of the year, and he has only seven RBI through 18 games.

Chase Headley is back in the Padres' starting lineup on Saturday night against the Giants.

Advice: Headley has been limited to pinch-hitting duties for much of this week because of a mild right biceps strain. He is batting fifth and playing third base Saturday.

Chase Headley delivered a pinch-hit single in Thursday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Headley has missed two straight starts with a right biceps strain, but him being able to pinch-hit is a good sign that he'll be back in the lineup soon. The third baseman is batting just .176/.222/.275 in the early going.

Chase Headley (biceps) is out of the Padres' starting lineup again on Thursday versus the Rockies.

Advice: Headley is considered day-to-day with a right biceps strain. Alexi Amarista is playing third base.

Chase Headley is not in the Padres' lineup Wednesday due to a right biceps strain.

Advice: It's being called a mild strain, and the third baseman is day-to-day. It's unclear when he sustained the injury. First baseman Yonder Alonso was taking ground balls at third during batting practice before Wednesday's game, so he may see some time at the hot corner in a pinch if Headley misses any more time.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Padres offered a three-year extension to Chase Headley during the offseason that was worth somewhere between $33-39 million.

Advice: The offer was made after the two sides avoided arbitration with a one-year, $10.525 million deal, so the extension would have begun in 2015. All told, he would have been guaranteed somewhere between $43.525 million and $49.525 million through 2017. Headley is said to be looking for a bigger deal and should have a pretty good chance to get it if he has a bounceback year. The 29-year-old is due to hit free agency this offseason.
