3B Andy LaRoche will stay at the hot corner in 2010. The Pirates had considered trying LaRoche at second base in spring training, but those plans have now been scuttled with the acquisition of 2B Akinori Iwamura from Tampa Bay in a trade.

Recommendation: LaRoche spent the last month in the instructional league learning how to play second. Pedro Alvarez appears on a course to take over the hot corner in June next year, clouding LaRoche's future. Performance and injuries will likely dictate who plays at second and third base in 2010.
