Player Notes
Miguel Montero went 2-for-4 with a home run in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

Advice: The homer, a solo dong, was Montero's fourth of the year. The 32-year-old has been the odd man out in recent days, as phenom Willson Contreras has commanded playing time with his hot hitting and veteran David Ross remains post-dish for Jon Lester starts. Contreras' presence will continue to cut into Montero's at-bats, even if the youngster is finding starts at other positions, and Montero's .207/.322/.347 line doesn't help, either.

Miguel Montero (knee) returned to the Cubs' lineup Saturday versus the Marlins.

Advice: Montero has been dealing with some soreness in his right knee since a play at home plate on Wednesday, but he's feeling good enough to catch John Lackey on Saturday. The hot-hitting Willson Contreras is starting in left field.

Miguel Montero (knee) is out of the Cubs' lineup again Friday.

Advice: Montero is still dealing with some soreness in his right knee from a play at home plate on Wednesday. The Cubs don't want to push things, but he is available to pinch-hit. Willson Contreras will start behind the plate and bat cleanup Friday versus Miami.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that Miguel Montero (knee) checked out fine in his post-game examination.

Advice: Sigh of relief for the Cubs. Montero was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Cardinals after Brandon Moss slid into him on a play at the plate in the sixth inning. Willson Contreras took his place at catcher, but Montero's examination turned up no tangible damage to the right knee and Maddon said that he will be utilized as normal moving forward. Contreras taking over the position might have to wait a little longer.

Miguel Montero left Wednesday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent leg injury.

Advice: Brandon Moss slid into Montero's legs while scoring on a Yadier Molina grounder in the top of the sixth inning. Willson Contreras entered the game at catcher and could suddenly be thrust into an everyday-like role if Montero's injury is at all serious. Look for an update after the game.
