C Kenji Johjima, who has left the Mariners to return to Japan, can expect a thank-you call from manager Don Wakamatsu sometime soon. "I've started to call around to the guys who were and are on the roster," Wakamatsu said. "Not everybody will be here next year; that's just the way baseball is, but everybody had a part in it, and I want to thank them. Joh was a big part of our success in turning around a 100-loss season (actually 61-101). He did a nice job behind the plate, was great at throwing out baserunners, and while I know he didn't hit as well as he would have liked, he was a big part of our clubhouse chemistry."
