LHP Paul Maholm has been pitching with a strained groin muscle that he suffered during his June 21 start at Colorado. However, he said it was not a factor in his allowing six runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings in his last start last Thursday against the New York Mets and that he will make his next scheduled start Tuesday night at Houston. |

Maholm denies that knee and groin injuries have hampered his performance this season, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Recommendation: "No, not at all," he said. "I'm perfectly fine to pitch. I just need to make better pitches." Maholm sprained his left knee in the beginning of the season and then suffered a groin injury in Colorado on June 21. His earned run average has jumped from 0.87 after three starts to 4.69, his highest mark of the year. |
