Maholm, who pitched a gem while showing no signs of a sore lower back on Tuesday, took a shot off of his leg in the eighth inning.
Recommendation: Maholm threw just 108 pitches but the Pirates likely held him back from pitching the ninth inning as a precaution. With a 7-6 record and a 3.92 ERA, the Pirates lefty has become the most reliable starter on the team.
