LHP Jason Vargas, who gave up three runs to the Angels in seven innings, took the loss Thursday, but he continues to pitch well at home. In his last seven starts at Safeco Field, he has allowed more than one run just once (Thursday). He lost at Safeco for the first time since Aug. 28, 2011.

Vargas did not get a decision Monday in a 6-1 loss to the BoSox.
Advice: Vargas had his worst start of the season, allowing five runs and seven hits in six innings. He had allowed two runs or fewer in six of his eight starts this year.
