Olsen was very sharp against his former club Monday, holding the Marlins to just two runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter. Recommendation: This was easily Olsen's best start of the season, and it looks like the time off did his shoulder a world of good. His upside is limited due to the fact that he pitches for the Nationals (he got a no-decision Monday despite his effectiveness) but he could be worth taking a chance on. |

LHP Scott Olsen was very encouraged by his first start coming back from the disabled list Monday night. After missing six weeks with left shoulder tendinitis, Olsen tossed seven strong innings against the Marlins, allowing two runs, striking out seven and not issuing a single walk. Olsen displayed improved velocity since he went down with the injury, with a fastball that consistently hit 90 mph. "That's huge for me," he said. "I'm not Jamie Moyer. I can't really be hugely successful throwing 82-83 (mph). I need to be up around 90 to have success. The exercises and the new routines that the training staff and the physical therapists have got me on here have paid dividends." |

The Nationals activated pitcher Scott Olsen from the 15-day disabled list Sunday and optioned right-hander Shairon Martis to Triple-A Syracuse. Advice: Olsen was 1-4 with a 7.24 ERA before being placed on the DL on May 18 with left shoulder tendinitis. He will rejoin the starting rotation Monday, when he will attempt to earn his 20th career victory on the road against the Florida Marlins. |
