C Ryan Doumit began an injury rehabilitation assignment with rookie-level Bradenton on Friday and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout while catching five innings. He has been on the disabled list with a broken right wrist since April 20. Doumit is expected to play again with Bradenton on Saturday then join Class AAA Indianapolis for five games. That would put him in line to return to the active roster for the first game after the All-Star break on July 17 against San Francisco. |

Doumit (wrist) caught five innings Friday in his first minor league rehab start, the Associated Press reports. Recommendation: He went 0-for-2 with a walk at the plate. "I'll play one more game here (on Saturday), then go to Indy (Triple-A Indianapolis) for four or five games. Then I will be back up with the team," Doumit said. "The wrist feels good. It felt good to get back out on a baseball field and break a bit of a sweat." Pirates' GM Neal Huntington noted that Doumit could be back after the All-Star break. |
