Stauffer has received a second opinion on his sprained right elbow from Dr. Lewis Yocum.
Advice: Yocum, the Los Angeles Angels' physician, performed reconstructive elbow surgery Wednesday on Stauffer's teammate, left-hander Cory Luebke. Manager Bud Black said Stauffer's situation is different because his problem is with the flexor tendon and muscle.

RHP Tim Stauffer went back on the 15-day disabled list Friday with recurring soreness in the flexor tendon bundle in his right elbow. It is the same injury that put Stauffer on the disabled list just before Opening Day and forced him to miss his last two starts of the 2011 season. The recurring theme seems to be that shortly after Stauffer starts to stress the injury, the pain returns. He had an MRI Friday morning. "I don't know the reasoning, but it's the same sensation I felt at the end of spring training," Stauffer said Friday afternoon of the pain he started to experience near the end of last Monday's start in Washington, D.C.

Stauffer has been placed on the 15-day DL with a right elbow sprain, Sarah Trotto of MLB.com reports.
Recommendation: The Padres haven't revealed much in the way of details behind Stauffer's injury, but it's of a bit more concern than it would be otherwise when you consider that he missed the first five weeks of the 2012 season with a triceps injury.
