Player Notes
Giants placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring injury.

Advice: It's been a few years since Cain has been fantasy relevant -- which makes this trip to the disabled list rather harmless -- but it still affects owners in deeper or NL-only leagues. Cain owns a 5.20 ERA with only a 6.37 K/9. Even when he returns, it's best to avoid him, if possible.

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports that the Giants plan on placing Matt Cain on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Advice: Cain suffered the injury during the second inning of Friday's start against the Rockies in Colorado. Cain underwent an MRI on Friday, and the club is waiting on results to officially announce a move. Baggarly also notes that former first round pick Chris Stratton is expected to be recalled to take Cain's place on the active roster.

Matt Cain was forced to leave Friday's start against the Rockies in the second inning due to a right hamstring strain.

Advice: It's unclear how long the injury may keep him on the shelf, though he did hit the disabled list with the same ailment back in May of 2014. Cain recorded five outs without any difficulty before the injury struck on Friday and had been on quite the roll over his last three starts.

Matt Cain was forced to leave Friday's start against the Rockies in the second inning due to an apparent lower body injury.

Advice: It's unclear at the moment exactly what happened, but Cain shook his head and looked toward the dugout after throwing a pitch in the second inning. Given his injury history, it could be something serious which would be a tough blow for the veteran right-hander and for the Giants after Cain had finally put together three straight quality starts. The Giants should have an update on his status shortly.

Matt Cain continued a recent roll of hot starts in Saturday's win over the Cubs, surrendering one run on six hits over six innings.

Advice: It might be time to start considering Cain for at least short-term fantasy purposes. Look past the 31-year-old right-handers admittedly difficult-to-look-past 5.37 ERA and 1.46 WHIP and there appear to be small bits of life sprouting up from the wreckage, much like how small plants began to sprout in the aftermath of the 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens. Cain has allowed four runs on 19 hits over his last 21 innings. A road start against the Rockies shows next on his schedule. Not quite the Cascades, but close.
