Hill's 2009 season is over after he underwent Tommy John surgery last week, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Recommendation: Hill underwent the same procedure four years ago. A second go-round of surgery can't bode well for his future prospects. |

RHP Shawn Hill is through for the season after having a second round of "Tommy John" elbow reconstruction surgery June 24 in Birmingham, Ala. Famed orthopedic surgeon James Andrews performed the surgery. Claimed off waivers from Washington during spring training, Hill made three starts for the Padres (1-1, 5.25 ERA) but experienced considerable pain in his elbow. "They found some pieces of bone in the ligament used in his first reconstruction surgery," manager Bud Black said. "Until then, they didn't know what the problem was other than Shawn was in considerable pain." Hill, 28, first had elbow reconstruction surgery in 2005. This is the third round of surgery to the elbow since then. Hill also had surgery on his left shoulder in 2007. |
