RHP Todd Wellemeyer, who started Thursday, had to labor through a fourth inning in which he walked four hitters and tossed 42 pitches. "He threw 20 or 30 more (pitches) than he should have thrown," said manager Tony La Russa, apparently not happy with minor league umpire Todd Tichenor's strike zone. |

Wellemeyer struggled in Thursday's start against Milwaukee, though he was able to escape allowing just two runs over five innings. He allowed five hits and five walks, and had just two strikeouts. Recommendation: Wellemeyer's ERA creeps up to 4.19 for the season, and he hasn't looked like anything more than a mediocre fantasy option since late May. It was a nice run while it lasted, but it looks to be very much over now. |
