In his first game back from an ankle injury, Bard went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's win over the Pirates. Recommendation: Not bad for a guy who hadn't faced major league pitching since May. He was hitting .200 before the injury and hit just .158 in a nine-game rehab assignment, but he's probably available for pretty cheap in many leagues and could be worth a pickup as a reserve catcher. |

Advice: Bard was hitting .200 with seven RBIs in 130 at-bats before he sprained his left ankle on May 21 against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was placed on the DL the next day. C Josh Bard, who was injured in the same inning that RHP Chris Young was hurt when he was slid into by Albert Pujols while blocking home plate, came off the disabled list Thursday. He had also been out since May 21 with a high ankle sprain. Bard, the Padres' No. 1 catcher, was hitting .200 with no homers and six RBI in 130 at-bats at the time of his injury. He went 3-for-24 (.125) on his rehab assignment. |
