Silva (back) will miss his scheduled start on Saturday after experiencing further issues with his ailment following a four-hour flight on Wednesday, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports. Recommendation: The Mariners have no reason to push Silva back into action too quickly, since they're on the hook for three more years of the four-year, $48 million pact he signed in December. Ryan Rowland-Smith could eventually take his rotation spot if Silva is unable to stay healthy the rest of the way, but R.A. Dickey will move up in the rotation to start in Silva's place on Saturday. |

Silva left his start Sunday with lower back tightness after allowing four runs in three-plus innings to Cleveland, becoming the latest casualty on the Seattle Mariners' sick, injured and ineffective rotation. Advice: With the game tied at 1, Silva allowed a double to Jhonny Peralta, an infield single to Shin-soo Choo and three-run home run to Kelly Shoppach to begin the fourth. Silva was then removed from the game following a consultation with manager Jim Riggleman and the Mariners' trainer. Details of the injury are still unknown, so monitor the developments. |
