Byrnes (hand) was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday night. Recommendation: No surprise here as he underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his hand earlier on Friday. Byrnes was replaced on the roster by Alex Romero, while he's expected to be out at least six weeks with the injury. |

OF Eric Byrnes is expected to miss between four and eight weeks after suffering a broken fifth metacarpal in his left hand when he was hit by a pitch from Texas RHP Scott Feldman in the second inning Thursday. Byrnes, hit with one out, remained in the game and was forced out at second base on a fielder's choice. He was replaced by Ryan Roberts in the top of the third inning.
Byrnes, hitting .216 with five home runs and 24 RBIs, has been the D-backs' fourth outfielder most of the season, although he had started the previous seven games -- six in left field, one as the DH -- while Chris Young (groin) recovers from an injury he suffered June 18 in Kansas City. Byrnes had one hit in his last 15 at-bats. |

Byrnes underwent surgery Friday to repair a broken bone in his left hand, a day after being hit by a pitch from Texas right-hander Scott Feldman. Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch said Byrnes is expected to miss between 4-8 weeks. Advice: Byrnes, hitting .216 with five homers and 24 RBIs in the second year of a three-year, $30-million contract, had a screw and plate placed in his fifth left metacarpal in an operation performed by Phoenix hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan. |
