RHP Sidney Ponson gave up four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday, failing to come through in the Yankees' biggest game of the season. It was Ponson's second consecutive poor outing after a string of good starts. In his past two starts, Ponson has yielded 11 runs in 6 2/3 innings. |

Ponson was rocked at Toronto Thursday, allowing eight hits and seven runs over two innings. Recommendation: Ponson actually hasn't been that bad as a rotation fill-in, with serviceable results in seven of his 10 Yankee starts. That said, when he doesn't have it, big numbers go up - this was the third time in his brief New York career where he's allowed seven runs in one outing. Bottom line, he remains an "at your own risk" proposition, and we don't trust him against the Red Sox next week. |
