RHP Braden Looper did not have his $6.5 million option for 2010 exercised by the Brewers. Instead, the club paid Looper a $1 million buyout and will use the money saved to pursue other pitchers. Looper was 14-7 last season and led the Brewers with 194 2/3 innings pitched but also posted a 5.22 ERA and surrendered 39 homers, most in the majors. The option was mutual, so if the Brewers exercised their half, Looper would have had three days to do likewise. GM Doug Melvin said he might revisit signing Looper later in the offseason, but that appears unlikely.
