Ordonez sat Friday against the Twins, the Tigers' official site reports.
Recommendation: Manager Jim Leyland wanted to jam his lineup full of left-handed batters with the Twins starting Kevin Slowey Friday. It does not seem like this will be the start of a prolonged benching, as was the case in June when Ordonez got four nights off in a row. Marcus Thames served as the DH Friday.

RF Magglio Ordonez, who has hit left-handers well this season, faced three lefty starters at Oakland -- and went 2-for-12 with both hits being singles to right. In his last 14 games, Ordonez is only batting .173 with one home run and three RBIs.

Ordonez ended a career-long drought without a homer by connecting on a go-ahead shot, leading the Detroit Tigers over the Chicago Cubs 6-5 on Thursday for their seventh straight victory.
Advice: Ordonez ended a 40-game skid without a homer. The six-time All-Star and 2007 AL batting champion was benched for almost a week before going hitless Tuesday in the series opener against the Cubs.
