Wagner was available to pitch for the New York Mets on Wednesday night against Philadelphia after missing the previous game with a sore left shoulder. Advice: Wagner played long toss from about 250 feet and threw in the bullpen before Wednesday night's game to test his shoulder. "I'm going tonight,'' he said about 75 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. ``Give you all something to write about." |

Wagner (muscle spasms in left shoulder) threw a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up the save in the Mets' 6-3 win over the Phillies Wednesday. Recommendation: The Mets floundered without their closer Tuesday, with four relievers giving up six runs to blow a 5-2 lead. Wagner declared declared himself available Wednesday after testing his sore left shoulder before the game by playing long toss from about 250 feet and throwing off a bullpen mound. With a quick turnaround to a 12:10 start Thursday, it will be interesting to see if the Mets go to Wagner again should a save situation arise. |
