3B Chipper Jones was back in the lineup, sore groin notwithstanding, going 2-for-3 with a walk, his 20th multi-hit game of the season. That leads the National League.
With 61 hits and 11 home runs in the Braves' first 39 games, Jones is only the fourth National League player since 1960 with 60 or more hits and at least 10 home runs in fewer than 40 games into the season. That puts him in company with Billy Williams (1964 Cubs), Lou Brock (1967 Cardinals) and Larry Walker (1997 Rockies). |

Jones (groin) thinks he should be ready to be inserted back into Atlanta's lineup on Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Recommendation: Jones did not play on Thursday due to a strained groin. The injury does not appear to be serious, meaning the hottest hitter in baseball can get back to work. |
