RHP Pedro Martinez allowed a two-run homer to Hideki Matsui in the second inning of Game 6, but manager Charlie Manuel left him in the game to face Matsui again in the third. Matsui lined a two-run single, giving the Phillies a 4-1 lead en route to a 7-3, championship-clinching victory. "I didn't get the performance I wanted, and we ended up losing the game," said Martinez, who raced out of the clubhouse and left the Stadium long before most of his teammates. |

Manager Charlie Manuel announced that Martinez will start Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday, the Phillies' official site reports. Recommendation: "Pedro is ready," Manuel said. "He has already been told and he's ready to go. I mean, how much do I expect out of him? I expect probably something similar to what we got the other night. I think that he's definitely capable of giving us anywhere from six to seven innings in the game, maybe longer, depending on how many pitches he throws early." Martinez struck out eight, walked two and allowed three runs on just six hits in his Game 2 outing against the Yankees. |
