RHP Tom Gordon became concerned when he couldn't reach fellow reliever J.C. Romero during a recent long-toss session. Gordon, the 40-year-old setup man, concluded he was going through a "dead arm" phase, and after 10 days of rest, he returned to the mound last Thursday in Oakland. Gordon allowed two runs (one earned) during that inning, but he reported feeling better. "My command was all over the place, but I wasn't worried about that," Gordon said. "As long as I was able to throw, I felt like I was OK." |

Gordon, who has not made an appearance since June 15, has been dealing with elbow soreness but appears to be better at the moment, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. Recommendation: Gordon, who has had several injury issues in the past few years, should continue to be a health risk given his track record at 40 years of age. |
