The Phillies' offense remained quiet and struggling reliever Connor Brogdon imploded in the 10th inning of a tough loss to the visiting Reds.
The Phillies released their Opening Day roster Thursday afternoon and also placed five players on the injured list.
Catcher Donny Sands, one of three players acquired in the Gregory Soto trade, was released by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. The Tigers plan to use catchers Dillon Dingler and Anthony Bemboom in Triple-A Toledo this year, squeezing Sands off the roster. Sands, 27, made his Major League debut in 2022 with the Philadelphia Phillies, but only appeared as a pinch-hitter, going 0-for-3. The right-handed hitter was drafted in the eighth round of the 2015 draft by the New York Yankees and converted from an infielder to a catcher.
