Twins CF Gomez not in lineup

CLEVELAND (TICKER) Minnesota Twins rookie center fielder Carlos Gomez was not in the lineup for Saturday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians.

Gomez crashed into the wall while making a spectacular catch in Friday night’s 5-4 loss to the Indians. He suffered bruises to his tailbone and lower back and is listed as day-to-day.

Gomez was immobilized on a stretcher and carried off the field after his first-inning catch and was taken to Lutheran Medical Center for further tests, which came back negative.

The 25-year-old Gomez is batting .248 with five home runs, 33 RBI and 21 stolen bases. He was acquired by the Twins from the New York Mets in the offseason trade for ace lefthander Johan Santana.
