Red Sox claim LHP Marshall on waivers

BOSTON (TICKER) —The Boston Red Sox on Monday claimed 24-year-old lefthander Jay Marshall off waivers from the Oakland Athletics.

Marshall, who posted a 1-2 record with a 6.43 ERA in 51 relief appearances for the Athletics this season as a rookie, was added to Boston’s 40-man roster. He earned his first major league victory against the New York Yankees on April 15.

Marshall was signed by the Athletics in the 2006 Rule V Draft after spending his first four professional seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization.

He is currently pitching for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League.
