Baltimore ‘Ironman’ Tyler ends streak to honor Ripken

BALTIMORE (TICKER) —One “Iron Man” will end his streak to honor another.

Baltimore Orioles umpire’s attendant Ernie Tyler will end his consecutive games streak on Saturday to attend the Hall of Fame Induction of former Orioles-great Cal Ripken Jr., who owns the all-time record for consecutive games played at 2,632.

Tyler, who has worked every Orioles game since Opening Day 1960, was scheduled to leave for Cooperstown, New York, on Saturday morning.

Including Friday’s game against the Yankees, Tyler’s game streak will end at 3,769 regular-season games between Memorial Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Including exhibition, postseason and All-Star Games, the 83-year-old’s streak totals 3,819 games.

Ripken invited Tyler to attend the ceremonies.
