Orioles place IF-OF Freel on DL

BALTIMORE (TICKER) —The Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday placed infielder-outfielder Ryan Freel on the 15-day disabled list with a head injury suffered in Monday’s 12-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

The Orioles recalled outfielder Lou Montanez from Class AAA Norfolk to take Freel’s place on the roster. Freel has hit just .133 in nine games for Baltimore this season.

Montanez batted .429 in 10 contests at Norfolk and has hit safely in his last 29 minor league games, dating to the end of the 2008 season.
