Marlins claim RHP Carvajal off waivers

MIAMI (TICKER) —The Florida Marlins claimed righthander Marcos Carvajal off waivers from the New York Mets on Wednesday.

Carvajal, 23, was 5-10 with a 5.22 ERA in 28 games, including 22 starts, with Class AA Binghamton.

The righthander is expected to join the Marlins on Friday.

A native of Venezuela, Carvajal last appeared in major leagues in 2005, going 0-2 with 5.09 ERA in 39 appearances with the Colorado Rockies.

In another move, Florida transferred third baseman Aaron Boone to the 60-day disabled list with a left knee injury.

Boone was originally sidelined with a knee sprain on June 25 before requiring season-ending surgery. In 69 games in his first season with the Marlins, the 34-year-old hit .286 with with five home runs and 28 RBI.
