Cubs recall OF Murton

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA (TICKER)—The Chicago Cubs on Tuesday recalled outfielder Matt Murton from CLass AAA Iowa of the Pacific Coast League before the start of their contest against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Murton, 26, who earlier this season hit .214 (3-of-14) with four RBI in eight games with Chicago from April 19 to May 1, batted .298 with a homer and 26 runs scored in 54 games with Iowa.

A four year veteran, Murton hit .281 with eight homers and 22 RBI in 94 games for the Cubs in 2007 and has an overall batting average of .295 with 28 homers and 102 RBI in 297 games.

In a corresponding move, Chicago optioned infielder Eric Patterson to Iowa.

Patterson, 25, hit .143 (2-of-14) with two RBI in five games for the Cubs after hitting .326 with five homers and 26 RBI in 47 games for Iowa.
